Well, I did it! I let Hudson go stay with all of Matt's family for the weekend, and I have to say that I am so very proud of how he did! Heres a play by play of our fun weekend!
Friday I woke up with a lump in my throat just so sad that I was going to have to pass Hudson off that day. Thursday night I just held him so much longer and was heart broken that I was not going to put him to bed two nights in a row! So Friday I got him all packed and ready for his BIG weekend! Matt came home early from work and we played with Hudson as much as we could before it was time to leave. We left for Decatur about 4. Matts parents and sisters met us at a Mexican food restaurant for dinner. We had a good visit. After dinner we loaded their car with all of Hudson's "stuff" (who knew a 10 month old could have so much stuff), put the carseat in place, and then it was like the lump in my throat released and the tears started flowing. I got him all buckled in and Matt and I got our kisses from him. Hudson was all smiles and happy, so I was glad that we were leaving him in a good mood. We drove off and I cried for just a little while, but really it was just the letting him go that was so hard. Once we were away I was ok. I knew he was in wonderful hands, and that he was going to be spoiled, spoiled, spoiled!!
I must say that Matt and I had the BEST weekend together. I can't believe that it had been almost 10 months since we spent a WHOLE weekend alone together. It was so fun for it to be just us, to have no interruptions, and just focus on each other. After we left Hudson we went down town Dallas and had so much fun. We walked around and just had a blast being together. We could not believe that people really stayed out past 9. HA! We then went and shopped around Mockingbird Station. Next we went for a drink at Cuba Libre in Uptown. Really cool restaurant....I want to actually eat there sometime! But it was fun just sitting together and talk. The time passed like it was just minutes! We left there and went back to Plano and went the shops at Legacy and walked around. It was a perfect night to be out! Then at 11:30 we went to Cheesecake Factory and had dessert and coffee! We split the chocolate brownie sundae cheesecake! UMMM GOOD! Instead of crust it was a thick brownie with cheesecake on top, then chocolate sauce, whip cream, nuts, and a cherry! People, you MUST try this one! It was rich and delicious! We did not get home until after MIDNIGHT!!! What a fun night!
Saturday we got up early and threw on some clothes and went to Starbucks. Matt read the paper and I read my People magazine. It was so relaxing just reading and drinking my coffee and having my sweet hub right across the table! We went home made breakfast then got ready to make the 11:45 movie. We saw Flight 93. It was so good and intense. I think everyone needs to see this movie. It really was well done and honored the hero's on that flight! I can't believe that was almost 5 years ago! Time flies. After the movie we went to The Galleria and shopped and shopped. I got some fun spring and summer clothes that I am excited about! Matt got some great stuff too. We had coffee at La Madeline to take a break from shopping....then shopped a little more. We went to dinner at Maggianos...yumm! After dinner we were exhausted. We did not stop ALL day! It reminded us of being younger and going to Dallas for the weekend. How you just go go go all day! It made me love living here even more. I love having all this fun stuff to do right at our fingertips!
Sunday we got up and went to the early service at Farmers Branch. It was great. By now I am missing Hudson BAD! I was ready to go and get him! Of course I missed him all weekend, but since I knew we were getting him in just a few hours...I was dying to get him! We left church and went home to change, and then went to La Madeline in Lewisville and split and omelet to kill time. We were waiting for the phone call from Matts fam to say they had left, so we could leave. Once they called we were on the way! We were so excited that we could hardly stand it. The hour drive seemed like forever! We were reunited and he remembered us. The smile on Hudson's face when we saw him was priceless.
I only called a few times to check on him. I fully trusted that he was taken care of. He did perfect. Slept threw the night both nights, drank his formula, ate his meals, took his naps, and loved on all his sweet family. He brought them so much joy, and that makes me feel so good. He did not have time to miss us! It made Matt and I feel so good to hear how wonderful he did. Now we can go to Maui and feel confident that Hudson will do just fine without us.
I want to encourage all of you parents out there to take time for yourselves once and a while. As hard as it was to let Hudson go for the weekend, it was WELL worth it. Just for the time to reconnect and be alone together with Matt was worth it. And I know it was so good for Hudson to be away from us and be with his grandparents, aunts, and great grands! I have the best memories growing up with my grandparents, and I want him to have the same!
It feels great to have us all home together now! Now I need to get caught up with laundry and cleaning. We did NONE of that this weekend. This weekend was such a blessing and so much fun!!!
