Hi, my name is Allison, and I am a follower......
I really can't think of a time where "but everyone is doing it" has come out of my mouth. Correct me if I am wrong parents......but I really have not been sucked into that mentality. UNTIL NOW! I have been sucked into PEER PRESSURE, and it's called Twilight. A while back when I heard about this whole Twilight phenomenon I thought to myself....'that is something I will not be wasting my time with.' I am VERY thought conscience when choosing what I read. I love nothing more than getting lost in a good book. I don't have that joy too often now, so it has to be something that is worth my time.
My curiosity about this whole Twilight series came to be when people I like and respect were doing it....and by doing it I mean 'not being able to put the books down'. And these are well educated people who were raving about it. Then I heard about people who actually stayed up and went to the midnight showing of Twilight at the theaters. I know....CRAZY. Who does that?? Midnight is so foreign to me.......
While in Tyler for Christmas, Matt and I had one of our Barnes and Noble dates. While I was browsing there was this girl standing by the WALL of Twilight books. So I stopped and asked her, "is it really all what it hyped up to be?" She looked at me like I was a TOTAL LOSER and said in a 'i am so much better than you type of voice', "you mean you haven't read it?" I said no, and she handed me one off of the shelf and told me to RUN and buy it now. So I did....but I did not run.
I had Twilight sitting on my bed side table since we returned home from Christmas. I would look at it and thumb thru it. I mean really 500 pages is a LONG read. That is not my usual read. I still was not interested. The storyline sounds silly. So a week ago Friday I started it....and had it finished by Tuesday night. Every free minute....I read. Nap time....I read. Put the kids in bed at night.... I read. Worked out....and read.
Matt would laugh at me. Whenever he would see me reading he'd ask, "are you in the Twilight zone?" So the tune "do do do do do do do" was often hummed around here. :) I bought book 2 on amazon and it just got here YESTERDAY. So that means I went from Wednesday to yesterday dying for it. I plan on diving in today. I also plan on buying 3 and 4 in an actual store rather than online.
So there you have it....I have admitted it. I feel so much better. I am a follower, not a leader. I'm ashamed to admit this, but I really thought about going to see the movie by myself while the kids napped today. I really want to see it now that I have read it. I hear some love it and some hate it. I want to see for myself!
I want to know how many of you have read the series? How many have been sucked in like me? :) Time to go and start 'New Moon"!

Welcome to addiction. Those are some of my favorite books! I could not put them down either; they are just so good! I have seen the movie a couple of times, and I like it, but that is because I went in expecting NOTHING, or at the very least, expecting it to suck. That way, there's no way to be disappointed when it's different from the book. All in all, if you have to be addicted to something, some of the most famous literature of the decade is a good choice. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteAllison, I have read them all and was completely sucked in this summer. Watched the movie, loved it and can't wait for it to come out on video. I actually started thinking Edward and Belle were real people and this story was true. When I was finished reading it, I wanted to know what happened next. You also need to get online and read about the author if you haven't already. She's a Mormon mom and had a dream about these characters. Wrote down parts of the book while at swimming lessons for her kids. Oh, I'm glad your reading the series and love it!
ReplyDeleteHahah, I love this post! I, too, got sucked in! Even though I had absolutely NO time last semester, I read all 4 books and saw the movie. I loved the first book, but wasn't as thrilled with the other 3. I think I just kept reading to see what would happen! :) I hope you enjoy the rest!
ReplyDeleteWelcome!:)
ReplyDeleteI read the first one the summer after Seth was born I think (or close to that time). No one had read it then and looked at me like I was CRAZY when I told them that it was good and not really what it sounded like when you said romance about a teen vampire! Glad you are enjoying them...you are definitely in with lots of good company. Can't wait to hear what you think when they are finished...;)
ReplyDeleteHaven't been sucked in yet...don't have time to read right now.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I will ever be sucked in...my hubby would be the one to be sucked in first. He is a HUGE reader and is obsessed with books like Harry Potter and such. :) Enjoy!
I was contemplating a similar post on my family blog!! I stayed away from it for a while, and after the movie came out and a very well respected teacher got hooked, I couldn't stay away. I finished it in ONE DAY, on Wednesday. I started it during the day and stayed up until 3:30 (I know!! it's crazy) reading it. I am in limbo waiting for the second one and it is driving me crazy!!
ReplyDeleteYour post says my thoughts exactly- I could just copy and paste!! haha
I LOVE to read, but haven't read these yet. I am like what you said at the beginning...everyone is doing it but what is the big deal? Maybe I should give them a try!
ReplyDeleteI,too, just this week have become addicted! I'm reading book one... every spare second I can find. It's going to take me longer than I want- I'd like to read it ALL in one sitting because it's so good! I didn't think I'd like it, but Leah talked me into it and I'm in love!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I guess I am going out and getting the book now that I know it is that good.
ReplyDeleteHe, he! I told you so! :) It's so fun huh?! I bought New moon on Amazon too. It took so long to get to me that I ended up going to the store and buying it b/c I could not wait one more seconds to start reading it. Oh, and the movie! I think it's AMAZING! Rob Pattinson is beautiful! He not only acts, but sings. He has other music that you can't buy... TO DIE FOR!!! I will send you a copy if you like his other stuff! :) Miss you!
ReplyDeleteGuilty, and I don't read. US weekly is what I turn to when I need a good break from the tube. I was an addict during Thanksgiving(read twilight) and Christmas(read New Moon) and have done a little reading in the third book, Eclipse. Dying to know what is going to happen, but can't seem to turn off my tv to find out. What am I thinking?? Glad you have jumped on the bandwagon. Go Team Edward!
ReplyDeleteHI Allison

i really just had to see what all the buzzzzz was about.
in true teeny-bopper fashion...it ends with the prom. that's when i felt like a dork.
You know I am TOTALLY addicted! I finished Breaking Dawn on Sunday. So sad! I feel like a HUGE part of my life is missing. :) Such a fun "escape" from everyday life :)
ReplyDeleteLike Leah and all the others I was sucked in too. Leah and I had regular chats when she was reading them. I hope you enjoy the rest of the books and a little advice buy 3 and 4 at the same time, you know your going to get them so just get them together!
