Why I think having a 4 year old boy is one of the greatest things in the WORLD!

This little boy is the love of my life (well, the 4 year old love of my life). He is the most precious guy I know. My most favorite thing about him is his imagination. He gets in full blown character for what he is pretending to be and I love it. Our house has a trail of his costumes from the bottom of the stairs up to the zoo (our playroom). When we are out and about he'll ask me over and over when we are driving if when we get home he can be a pirate, or a cowboy, or a spaceman...etc. My answer is that he can go home and be whatever he wants to be. The other day he said that when he grows up he wants to be a doctor like papa, then when he grows up more he'll be a banker like daddy, then when he grows up more he'll be a garbage man (not joking...he's always loved the garbage truck), then when he grows up again he'll be fireman in the morning and a police officer at night. It'll be interesting to see what this little guy ends up doing in his life.

Today we were driving to the gym and out of no where he asks me how we get to Heaven, how do we know if we will get to go there, where is Heaven, and how do I know those answers? The entire time in the back of my mind I was thinking "really, hud, could you give me a heads up when we are going to have these conversations??" His questions were very good and I could tell he was thinking about what I was saying just by his follow up questions. So on our way to workout I told him about loving Jesus and making the decision to live our life for Him, being baptized, showing others Jesus, the importance of reading the Bible, and how in our bodies we have a spirit that goes to Heaven (yeah, I know, WAAAY over his head, but how would YOU have said you actually GO to Heaven???).........I was totally taken off guard, but I figured since he asked I'd tell him. At the end when we got there I turned around and told him that those were good questions and that we can always talk about Jesus and Heaven and how much I loved him....and right when I thought he was going to say something brilliant he said, "When we go see mini and papa I want to take my pirate stuff." I said ok and off we went to the gym. That sweet boy never ever ceases to amaze me.

Here are a few pics of him lately. I take him out on errands dressed as these characters. The other day he went to the grocery store as an army man (in this 100 degree weather...I just pick and choose my battles) and he LOVED all the smiles and attention. It's so cute how strangers will comment and say "hey army dude" or "thank you for your service in the military"....it always makes me laugh at the funny things people say. I know one day he'll grow out of this costume stage, but for right now I am LOVING every moment of this little stage in his life. He is too precious for words!

Today we have been a pirate...he dug up all the pirate treasure (Harpers stuff) in the sandbox and insisted that it was pirate treasure. Yeah, Harper was not on board with that idea.

Yesterday we were a police officer (I sweat just looking at him).

This is Moses. We were watching The Prince of Egypt and he immediately ran up stairs and thru this get up on. Notice the socks with his sandals...NICE! The necklace is Harper's, but Moses has a necklace on so he had to have one on too. That is my headband that I use to take my make-up off, but Moses had a thing going across his head so this was what Hud came up with. His attention to detail is so funny. So he ran around the house yelling, "Pharaoh, LET MY PEOPLE GOOOOO!"

Bicycle Policeman....because they wear shorts.

The ARMY DUDE!

My personal favorite is the Spaceman. He is sooo cute in it!

Cowboy Hud!
And just a goofy picture of my goofy pirate guy!!

Hudson reminds me so much of Paul at that age. Do you remember how Paul was a different character each day? Dick Tracy, Batman, Superman, Ninja Turtle??? I can remember letting him go to the grocery store in full get-up. Their imaginations are so precious. Enjoy this time and put it to memory because before you know it you will have a 6'4" 23 year old that is still the love of your life and still has a vivid imagination. This post takes me back to a very sweet time.

    Love you all,

    Mom

  8. What can I say...just love that boy! I smiled and laughed the whole time reading it. He reminds me so much of Matt at that age...just wish we could have had all those costumes. Matt also paid attention to details, down the "swagger" of Indiana Jones, so you always knew who he was supposed to be.

The "heaven" question reminds me of the "where do babies come from". I guess we don't have to give them too much information because they are on to the next thing...ha!

Enjoy every minute of it. It will be over before you know it...but then, you will have cute grandchildren who will make you smile, laugh, and remember what it was like...God is good!

We can't wait to see you all Monday! I'm guessing we will see a pirate get out of the car.

  9. These pictures are cracking me up. My favorite is the Moses one. What a great imagination!

Are you getting excited about D-land? Let me know if you have any questions. When we went on the Pirates of the Caribean ride, I actually thought of Hudson along with my nephew who loves pirates.
