Catching up!

My sweet baby girl had a Mother's Day breakfast today with her Mighty Moose friends.  It was so nice and her little class is the CUTEST group of 3 and 4 year olds.  Her teacher, who is hands down the greatest preschool teacher there ever was (SO TRUE Ashleigh), really gave the moms a breakfast feast.  It was delicious.  The kids then sang 3 songs.  Harper, my lively full of life 3 year old, FROZE.  The songs were adorable, and I enjoyed so much being there with my little Mighty Moose--even if she did not sing along.   (I do  have to add that she gave me a FULL performance when she got home today).  I love and treasure my one-on-one time with my kids.

Shy Harper???  Really?

Ohhh there you are harp-a-darp! :)

Last weekend Matt's family came to see us totally spur of the moment.  Hudson had a T-ball game on Saturday that they wanted to see.  Can't blame them--there really isn't much cuter than t-ball.  We have enjoyed this season so much.  Saturday we went to Hud's game, had lunch on the river, and then spent the late afternoon outside playing.  It was a beautiful day, and we were so glad they came.
Look at Hudson's tongue when he bats in these two pictures.  It's all curled up.  So funny!

Love those gloves hanging out of his back pocket.

Oh how I love these two sweet friends here.

A perfect night for more baseball.

Such a sweet picture of Aunt Lissa and Holton.  We were THRILLED our little newlywed came for the weekend too!

Sweet, little dirty hands holding a doodle bug.
Well, I promise we had Papa and Mini here as well as Tyson and Lauren.  Not sure how they escaped without a single picture on my camera.

I cannot believe it's May and we are almost finished with school.  It has FLOWN by.  Wasn't it just January and I gave birth???  I can't get over my little Hudman is about to graduate from preschool.  I've got a serious case of denial going on here.  I mean really, he is going to be 6 in July, don't you think I would be handling this better???  On a fun note, our Disney World vacation is coming up soon.  We are over the moon excited about it.  It comes up daily in our conversation.  The kids can hardly contain their excitement.---Well, really none of us can.
I pulled out Harper's mini mouse clips from our Disneyland trip 2 years ago, and stuck them in Hudson's hair.  We got a good laugh out of it.  He's such a trooper with his nutty mama.
Sweet baby boy has been loving his thumb lately.  It is just the sweetest thing.  He and I have been having a hard time over the last few weeks.  He developed thrush in his mouth right before Brandon and Melissa's wedding a few weeks ago.  Come to find out when we thought he had allergies with the East Texas weather, it was thrush that caused his skin to get so horrible.  Since he has thrush, he has passed it on to me while nursing him (HORRIBLE), and neither one of us have yet to be able to shake it off.  We just keep passing it back and forth to each other.  I'm really sad about it because if we don't get rid of it I think I am going to have to wean him.  I really don't want to, but it has gotten so bad that I feel like I am going to loose my mind (sounds sarcastic, but I am serious).  I have had mastitis twice with Holton and now thrush.  I would rather have mastitis any day over this.  Not even kidding.  He and I are both on the same medication.  I started mine yesterday.  I am praying this works and we can get over this hump.  It's been tough.  Anyone else ever had this???  I am up for any advice!

I guess that is it.  I am looking forward to a low key weekend with my favorite 4.  We have a t-ball game to enjoy tomorrow, a birthday party, church, and Mother's Day!!

Happy Mother's Day to all of my Mommy friends and blog readers.  There is no greater feeling of love than a mother's love.  There is no tougher job than being a mother--a nursing mother with thrush.  (OK, OK, you get the point that I am miserable--ha).  {If we beat this thing, I'm throwing a party & you are all invited.  HA!}!!  Being called "mommy" is the greatest name I could have.  I am so proud of my 3 babies, and would not trade this life for anything.

  1. I've been reading for about a yr but don't know if I've ever commented but had to share my thrush tips because it is awful!!! I had it 4 times and it brought tears to my eyes jus to nurse. The first thing I was given was nystatin which is an older remedy that rarely works. You need an antifungal. I believe the one I took that worked wad fluconoze. The first doc had me give it to the baby too and the second had me swab his mouth before nursing to kill the yeast before he gave them back to me. Another old remedy is gentian violet. It's messy but it works-you swab his mouth with it daily. Something that also worked for me-totally grossed me out but really did the trick. Eat a clove of garlic a day. I would cut it into bits and swallow it whole so it didn't get to my breath. I'll eat a clove if I feel it coming on-the itching and tingling-and it'll knock it out before it gets bad.

There is a dermatologist locally who specializes in treating thrush. I'm sure he would consult your doc. He is amazing and has helped so many friends who have had it bad. His name is David Spencer in Winston-Salem NC. 888-473-0218. It's a toll free number.

It seems a lot of docs are reluctant to try other treatment protocols, but you have got to get rid of the thrush-even if you decide to wean-it can effect you later in life.

I know you don't know me from Adam but feel free to email me if you want more info. I'm out of town and writing from my phone so I don't have the info in front of me, but have the prescriptions at home as well as the other things I tried that didn't work. Amdavee at gmail dot com. I'm afraid I won't remember to come back to this on Sunday when I get home.

One more tip I heard, wash everything that touches you or baby in hot hot water-may want to throw a pot of boiling water in washer. From what I understand, there are a couple of ways the candida-yeast-cause problems and yours sounds like overgrowth since you both have it, so you definitely need to kill it off.

I really feel for you. I know how awful it is! Please write.

  2. Alli, I FEEL your pain! I had mastitis twice with Ky and thrush. If you are on Diflucan I think it will do the trick. I hope ya'll get better soon.

You made me cry with the Hud talk. Reese is "graduating" from pre-school Tuesday night. It puts a pit in my stomach and of course I start to cry. What happened to our babies??

I love you and miss you guys!

  3. Fluconozole is the antifungal and keflex is the drug he gave for pain (I think it's actually an antibiotic but somehow it helps) he recommended a cream for my nipples and his bum called vusion that my insurance charged 100 bucks for so I didn't use it but ended up using one called Naftin that he gave me samples of (I had another in between that I was allergic to-econozole, so u may want to try samples to be sure). He said to alternate the rx cream and 100% zinc oxide. Other people have found success with overthw counter micolozole creams-like for foot fungus.

and there is a doctor in Canada who has a great website related to breastfeeding that has some great info and a cream you can get mixed up. His name is Dr jack Newman and he is very dedicated. If you write him, he will actually respond to your email himself. Breastfeeding@sympatico.ca

This is the link to his website Drjacknewman.com

Sorry for the novels Promise I'm not crazy. Just sympathetic!!!

  5. Hi Allison! (this is Raena, Harper's bible class teacher from church). I have some thrush tips that have worked for my clients...I've done some lactation consulting. You want to make your baby an environment where yeast cannot grow. Doing this will treat the actual CAUSE of the thrush, rather than just the SYMPTOM. Here are the steps:

    1. Organic Apple Cider Vinegar: mix 50:50 with water, clean your chest with it after each feeding, as well as swab ing his mouth. Also, take a 2 shots of it each day by mouth yourself.
    2. Both of you take a probiotic. You can get them at HEB or Sun Harvest in the refrigerated area with vitamins. Make sure you get one safe for his age, we use one that says it's for 1 month+. Also eat lots of organic yogurt.
    3. Stay away from foods with sugar until you know it's gone. Sugar breeds yeast in your body.

    Hope this helps!

  7. I know, it's been a long time! We moved to the North Central campus. Also, I didn't teach last semester because of the new baby. But I'll be teaching the cradle roll in the Fall, so possibly Holton. Our third was born on January 16th, a boy Ezra. I am just soaking up every second of his beautiful babyness, as I'm sure you are also. :)
