Our Vacation...

Matt and I got back yesterday evening from our week long vacation at the Barcelo Palace Deluxe in the Rivera Maya. We had a fantastic, relaxing week. We were total beach bums the entire week and I loved every single minute of it. We had 2 outings while we were there. We went into town in Playa Del Carmen (about 20 minutes away) to walk around and have dinner one evening, and our other excursion was to Coba where the Mayan ruins are. We canoed, repelled into a cenote, zip-lined over the Maya jungle, had lunch prepared in an ancient Mayan village by Mayan women, and CLIMBED to the top of the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan called the Nohoch Muul. It was a FULL day, but it was so much fun, so beautiful, and quite the experience.

The rest of the week was spent doing nothing but reading on the beach and having no schedule whatsoever. It was fantastic!! We actually did not get too many pictures because we lost our charger to our small point-and-shoot camera. So ended up lugging our big honker pal, Nikon, around for the most part. Most people are too intimidated to take your picture with it, so we did not get any 'together' pictures.

I love getting away with Matt. We always have so much fun and really enjoy our time alone together. I always kind of go through 'kid detox' when we first are way because it feels so strange not having our little sweet ones with us. Like at dinner...only having to cut up my own food is strange. Part of me wants to reach over and cut up all of Matt's dinner for him, make sure his hands are clean, and double check that we have PLENTY of napkins. HA! We were really ready to get home yesterday and see Hudson and Harper. We have loved our little reunion together. The kids had a great time in this rainy San Antonio with their Mini and Papa. They were too busy to miss us.

Today is my man's birthday. I celebrated him everyday last week. Each time before dinner I told him it was his birthday dinner & to enjoy himself. He kept saying it was just coincidence that the trip fell on the week of his bday, but I think that it is just because he does not want to have to 'owe' me a birthday vacation. HA! He totally does. :) It has been a good day celebrating Matt, and seeing him back in his 'element' of being the sweetest daddy I know. The kids have enjoyed it being their daddy's day. I have too.

Here is our week in pics!!

The older I get the more paranoid I get about the sun (which explains the big, floppy hat). I use to go out and put nothing but straight suntan oil on with zero spf. I am proud to say that I wore spf everyday came home without a burn. (sad to say but that is a first for me).

Soaking up some sun. Matt did end up a little pink after the first day.

The gorgeous view from where we were. It was soooo beautiful!

Matt climbing out of the cenote. Total stud.
The cenote we repelled down into.

This a picture from the tour's website showing what we did, and what a cenote is.

This is another pic from the tour's website showing the pyramid we climbed.

The Mayan village. It was SOO primitive, but amazing.
On our way to dinner.

This was in a village. I thought this man's sign was so funny. It said, "K-MART Blue light Especial."

At the top of the Yucatan. We were so sweaty and gross. We had been rained on, repelled in the water, zip-lined, and then just climbed this pyramid. So forgive how stinky I look.

The pyramid

Riding in the 'Mexican limo'. That is what they called it.

That is what we rode in....it was really fun.

The view from our room.

Ahhh, I want to go back.

These last 2 pictures have to be my favorite day. It was the last day and we knew it was supposed to rain. Matt got up early to grab us this very wanted hot spot at the resort. These little tiki huts were by the adult pool and were hard to get b/c everyone wanted one. We stayed here the ENTIRE day until dinner. We did not get up but to go to the potty, eat lunch, or grab uno mas cerveza . It was HANDS DOWN the most RELAXING day EVER. It rained off and on all day long and we just laid there DRY with our books, music, and even napped. It was FANTASTIC!! Romantic too. :)

When my life gets wild and crazy, this spot will be my 'happy place' to go to in my mind. It was a perfect day.

Thank you for letting us take care of the kids. We had a lot of fun with them, even if it did rain. They were so good and just makes us miss them more when we are away.

Happy Birthday to my Mattie boy...couldn't be prouder of the Christian man he is! He is a wonderful son, husband, father, and brother...and we are so proud of him. Of course, marrying you was the best thing he did!!!

  5. Okay, so I am loving your hat! Ha! Gonna grab me one of those for Maui this summer! I am fixing to be 32, and it's just been the last few years that I am becoming concerned with the effects of the sun, too. Guess we are getting wiser, right!? ;) Anyhow, looks like yall had a blast and I am so glad you did. Trips like that are just refreshing. We don't get many with A's schedule, and plus, he never wants to leave the kids, but we are actually going to LEAVE for a WEEK this fall for EUROPE. I can't tell you how excited I am! Woohoo! Anyhow, loved all the pictures! You always have the best vacation posts, ya know! ;)
