Verse 1/24--Philippians 4:6-7

Philippians 4:7
Today, January 1st, begins the first day of my 24 verses memorized in a year.   I wrote a little bit about my new years resolution in my previous blog post.  I am joining Beth Moore's 2011 challenge of memorizing scripture.  2 a month (each 1st and 15th) for an entire year.  I am really excited!  I want to use my blog to track my verses and my progress!

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7
I chose this verse because it speaks and has spoken to me a lot lately.  Especially over the last couple of weeks when we thought our little guy might come a little too early.  Here is why I want this verse to live within me:
1--Don't be anxious about ANYTHING.  (really, anything???)?
2--but in EVERY situation.  (the small is just as important as the big).
3--by prayer and petition, with THANKSGIVING (I want to be Thankful when I pray--not just a needy daughter constantly asking).
4--and the PEACE of GOD (WOW--this is huge) which TRANSCENDS ALL UNDERSTANDING (WOW, AND WOW), will guard your HEARTS & MINDS in Christ Jesus.  (The fact that God would give me HIS peace...not just peace, but HIS peace--blows my mind.  The writer nailed it.  It does transcend all understanding).

This verse is my prayer....I long for His peace in every situation.

I am looking forward to this year and this spiritual discipline!

"For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires." Hebrews 4:12

  2. This is such a great idea, girl! I, too, love this verse. The Lord is so faithful to His children! Also, I loved your other post, I can't believe how quickly your kids are growing up! I will be in pray for your sweet family, and I can't wait to see pics of Holton - he's going to be absolutely precious! Have a fabulous 2011, girl, I am so glad we are friends!

  3. I love it! And I think that memorizing scripture is a wonderful thing to do! I went to a private school growing up, and to become a senior, you had to memorize 125 verses and recite them in one sitting, and then part of graduating was to recite 150 DIFFERENT verses, and recite them in one sitting as well. At first, it seemed impossible, not to mention annoying that it was required, but once I did it, I was amazed at how neat it was to know all of that scripture. I still, to this day, can quote a good 3/4ths of those scriptures, and I love that they are permanently etched in my mind. So go, girl, go!!

  4. I am soo excited you are doing this! What a powerful verse to have forever in your heart.
I am doing this for the first time this year too, so I will be memorizing with you all year. My verse for this month is Psalm 19:13-14.
If you girls come to the celebration next December you are welcome to have a slumber party at our house:)
