And baby makes 4

I am sorry for the delay in sharing how the kids reacted to the news of baby #4.  We have had strep throat in our house.  Harper came down with it hard on Friday and Hudson woke up with it today.  We have a had a few long nights with our sick Harper-girl.  She is all better now...Hud started his antibiotic today so hopefully he'll be better soon....(and no one else gets it).

First of all I have to say thank you so very much for your kind comments on my blog and facebook.  I was blown away and so moved.  I appreciate the encouragement and faith you have in me because let me tell you I have had many days where my 3 are about to do me in and I wonder to myself, "really...we are going to throw one more to this wild mix???"  I have to just laugh during those times because let me tell you-- it's a zoo around here.

We took the kids out to dinner Thursday night.  We told them we had a BIG, HUGE, LIFE-CHANGING surprise to tell them about.  The guesses started coming---a new puppy, we are moving, going on vacation...on and on.  They guessed all the way to dinner with many "come on just tell us.  we can't wait any longer."  Harper kept saying "I cannot wait to know what our surprise is!  It was pretty funny.  We sat down and ordered and then we started to give them hints..."The surprise will probably start with an "H"."...nothing.  "The surprise wont' get here until after summer."...nothing.  OK---"I think Holton is getting warm.  We should take off his jacket."  {Kids see BIG BRO shirt}...nothing.  "How could Holton be a big brother."  Harper---He is a BIG brother now that he's 1.  Harper, what made you a big sister?  Harper---"GOD DID".  Yes, but how did you become a big sister?  {Blank stare---I grew up!!}  (Matt and I were laughing so hard because they just had no clue where we were going with this).  Hudson, what made you a big brother?  Harper did.  Well, what could make Holton a big brother??  A baby.  That's right!  We are going to have another baby.  ---both kids look at us with looks of shock and BOTH said, "No you aren't."  I then show them the sonogram picture and they just stare at it with disbelief.  They were so surprised.  Hudson immediately tried to lift my shirt so I could prove it to him.  It was quite amusing hearing their questions and watching their faces as they were processing this news.  A few minutes later Harper said, "Mommy I really hope it's Hadley in your tummy (Hadley was our girl name for Holton which was so funny she remembered that) because I DO NOT want another brother."  Pretty cute.  Of course Hudson spouts out that he definitely wants another brother and he really wants his name to be Hunter.  HA---we had not even mentioned names and they both feel strongly about their name choices.  We threw out a few non H names (because seriously 4 H's??  I feel like people cannot get our 3 H's right as it is.  Poor kids will never get their names right from others).  Hudson feels very strongly that this baby has to have an H name.  Matt and I go back and forth---who knows.

Probably the best part of the evening was on the drive home.  We were almost home and Harper says, "Mommy I am SO excited to find out what our surprise is going to be."  Matt and I just fell over laughing because poor thing had been waiting so patiently all night for the surprise and did not realize our baby news was IT.  HA---sorry to disappoint you Harper-girl.  Don't you just love the honesty and the funny things that come out of kids mouths?

So now that the news has had time to sink in the kids are so excited.  Hudson reminds me all the time that he was right.  (several months ago he started talking about baby #4 and I told him over and over and OVER again that there would never be a baby #4....obviously I thought Matt's V worked).  Hudson thinks it's pretty neat that God gave us this baby without even praying for it to come.  The other day he started talking about baby #5 and #6....I quickly shut him down and said 4 is going to be it.  There will not be anymore after this baby.  He looked at me with this smirk on his face and said, "You never know mom, you just never know."

  5. This absolutely cracks me up!!! From the first picture to Hudson's last words, what fun memories already for baby #4! I'm hoping for a girl so that Harper will have a sister and the girls will not be completely outnumbered. Hang in there busy momma!

  8. Congratulations on the exciting news of baby #4! I love the name Hadley if it's a girl. I had to laugh when I read your commment about people getting all the "H" names confused. I'm an "H" name, and so are our two kids, and people are always calling us the wrong names! :)

  10. I love Hudson's comment about #5 & #6 babies. Oh dear, if he is right.... Love the names Hadley and Hunter. I have always loved Hadley. I am hoping for a girl just to make it even. Poor harper is out numbers with Ace, Hudson and Holton. She needs someone to play dress up with.
